  • 'Ugly' dog finds new home in Scotland

A dog branded too ugly for adoption by an entire country has found a new home in Fife.

Stray Maggie was found wandering the streets in Ireland, but staff at the Dog's Trust were unable to find an owner attracted by her unique looks.

The charity eventually transferred her to Scotland in a bid to find a more sympathetic animal lover.

Vets had advised that Maggie's protruding bottom jaw should be left alone because her protruding teeth do not cause her any problems.

However, workers at the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in South Lanarkshire gave her a mini-makeover to tidy up her wiry hair.

And staff were delighted when, just one month after her arrival, a new family took her in.

Maggie is now living in Cowdenbeth with new owners Alistair and Agnes Masterton, who say she' has been a huge hit with their young granddaughter Abbie.

The couple went to the charity looking for a pet and said they fell in love with her quirky looks as soon as they spotted her.

Sandra Downie, Dogs Trust Glasgow centre manager: "The staff here at Dogs Trust Glasgow are delighted that Maggie has found a new home with Mr and Mrs Masterton.

"She was an instant hit here because she’s such a friendly wee thing. We knew it was just a case of finding new owners able to see beyond her looks and appreciate her inner loveliness!"
