    Britain is an island nation. Much of our food and fuel, and most of our array of consumer goods, from cars to computers, come to us by sea. And the sea is a playground for cruise ships and ocean liners. This series of six programmes introduces us to the men and women of the Merchant Navy who sail the ships that fly the red ensign around the world, from raw recruits to seasoned sea-dogs, from the Panama canal to the English channel.
